Maxi Yacht Rolex, racing with giants
Sabato 03 Settembre 2011 05:07
Esimit Europa 2 will defend her Championship Title in the international fleet of the largest and fastest yachts in the world – Week of challenges for European crew, which sails under the high patronage of José Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, and with main sponsor Gazprom. The emerald waters of Sardinia will host the 22nd edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, which will take place from 5th to 10th September. This year a fleet of 46 boats, the world's "crème de la crème" of the most competitive maxi yachts, will compete for the prestigious World Championship Title. Nevertheless, the goal for Esimit Europa 2's European crew is very clear – to defend the title. This mission will not be easy, the biggest (from 24 to 45 meters) and technologically most advanced maxi yachts from 11 different countries will do everything to thwart the plans of the European flagged serial winner.

After achieving line honours at the Giraglia Rolex Cup and at the Palermo – Monte Carlo regattas, the crew took their time to discuss tactics for the upcoming coastal races. “Together with the team we have carefully checked the courses and weather specifics for this region. The crew went through the long list of competitors, analysing their strong and weak points. In the next days we will be practicing specific manoeuvres and trying out new technical features of the boat that they might be using for this regatta for the first time. We will do anything to repeat last year’s success”, stated Igor Simčič, owner of the Esimit Europa 2 yacht.

The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is a series of daily races organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in collaboration with their partner Rolex. The coastal races will take place over five days, between 6th and 10th September. On last day, at the final ceremony, the winners of each division will be awarded. Esimit Europa 2 will be tracked in real time online. The race tracker will be available on the Esimit Europa website from Monday, 5th September.
